Bell Ringing at St. Mary’s Church
There is a long tradition of both tower bell ringing and hand-bell ringing at St. Mary’s Church. Adults and children can learn the art of tower bell ringing and hand-bell ringing (children from the age of 12 for tower bell ringing and from the age of 8 for hand-bell ringing).
If you would like further information about tower bell ringing or the Church Bells then please contact Tony Smith, the Tower Captain, through the Parish Office.
Barfield Hand-bell Ringers
Founded in 1965 by Bill Butler, former tower captain at the church, Barfield Hand-bell Ringers now comprises two teams of ringers. The main team practises on Monday evenings, 7.30 - 9.30pm, and performs at concerts, festivals and many other occasions throughout the year.
The team for beginners and improvers practises on Wednesday evenings in term time, 7.30 - 9pm, and gives its members the opportunity to take part in some performances. They may also progress to join the main team in due course. New members are always welcome - either contact the secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org) or just come along on any Wednesday evening in term time.
